Dr. (Col) James was commissioned in 1980 into the Bihar Regiment, known for the Galwan Heights leadership and gallantry, and rose to the rank of selection grade Colonel. Listening to the call of his personal vision “to enable young people to be globally competitive”, Dr. James sought early retirement and joined management education after a short stint in the corporate.

He is known for establishing the Leadership Assessment and Development Center at TAPMI, Manipal using integrated psychometrics developed through his research. He has developed and delivered several MDPs on leadership, thriving through conflicts, emotional intelligence, managing in VUCA environment, and other topics meant for the heads of organizations and senior leaders. With a PhD in stress and leadership, and acumen for guiding research honed during his study in Canada, James and his PhD students have forayed into unconventional areas such as physical exercise and creativity using random control technique (RCT) experiments, inspirational language and stock movement, organizational health practices and employee engagement.

Dr. James has published a number of articles in ABDC journals and has written a comprehensive 23- chapter book “Organizational Behavior” published by Pearson, with content on behavior related issues not found in similar textbooks. He has special expertise in learning assessment and assessment center techniques and is credited with building the first ‘Assurance of Learning’ for AACSB accreditation of TAPMI, Manipal.

After an illustrious 25 years in the army, he began to redefine his 40-year long career, commencing as president, Indeco Leisure hotels. Col James carved this business out of Sterling Holiday Resorts, using an asset light model. After this stint in the corporate, he moved to academics, as the founding director of Saintgits Institute of Management. He was a faculty on leadership, OB and HR at TAPMI Manipal, and IMT, Ghaziabad, and later the Director, Asian School of Business, Trivandrum.

Dr. (Col) James has special expertise in leadership development, personality profiling, competency development, performance management using a copyrighted technique, and has consulted for Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration on leadership training of IAS officers under the aegis of the UNDP.

  • Ph.D in Management from DAVV, Indore. MBA from UBS, Chandigarh, with study abroad from University of Manitoba, Canada.

  • M.Sc in Defence Studies from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
