SCARRING AND KELOIDS TREATMENTS

Keloid and hypertrophic scar treatments are used to effectively overcome problems like post acne or injury scars, lesions or keloids.

1. Fraxel/E-Matrix Laser Treatment

The Fraxel/E-Matrix laser treatment is a safe and effective treatment for acne scars, injuries or surgical scarring. It is friendly for all skin types. It is quick, with little or no discomfort, and has shown an 80% 'permanent' resolution of scars.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A non-invasive, microscopic laser penetrates your skin to encourage new collagen and elastin growth, smoothen wrinkles and scars, while keeping the top layer of the skin intact.

SCHEDULE:

Duration: 15 minutes per session.
Frequency: once a month.
Number of sessions: 3-4.

2. Intralesional injections to reduce Keloid Scars

Keloids are a type of raised scar that occurs where the skin has healed after an injury. They can grow to be much larger than the original injury.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Intralesional injections are a widely used solution for keloid and hypertrophic scar treatment, with great results. The goal of the treatment is to flatten, soften or shrink the keloid.

SCHEDULE:
As prescribed, in intervals of 3 weeks, along with topical medication.

3. Derma roller collagen induction therapy

Derma roller is used for the treatment of acne scars, stretch marks and wrinkles, and to smoothen pockmarked skin and improve skin colour. This method is used for facial rejuvenation which induces collagen induction by the use of micro-needling.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
A special roller or device with needles is used to prick the skin and stimulate new collagen production. Because of this, micro-needling is also known as collagen induction therapy or percutaneous collagen induction. This is primarily used to minimize signs of ageing and treat photo-aging, post-acne and trauma scars.

SCHEDULE:
As prescribed, in intervals of 3 weeks.
Duration: 1.5 hours per session.

4. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for skin resurfacing of scars

Platelet-rich plasma therapy has shown promise in boosting the effects of micro needling, helping achieve the desired results faster. PRP softens wrinkles and creates an improved skin texture and tone that is smoother, firmer and younger.
Most patients can use this procedure since it is minimally invasive. In addition, the doctor will assess and recommend a personalized treatment protocol.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?
Pre-treatment preparation may include:

  • avoiding excessive exposure to the sun for a few weeks
  • drinking lots of water in the days before your treatment begins

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The actual procedure involves two steps:

Step 1: Micro-needling: This lasts about 30 minutes, depending on the areas treated, and involves the rolling of a professional-grade derma roller or device on the desired areas on your face.

Step 2: PRP injection: The PRP is first separated from the blood that is taken from your arm. It is then injected into the target areas where it helps the growth of collagen which regenerates tissues and makes your skin smooth and tight.

Since PRP comes from your own blood, there’s little chance of cross-contamination or infection.

SCHEDULE:
Duration: 1.5 hours per session.
The length of treatment is usually decided by the specialist.

5. Botox for treating Keloids and Hypertrophic Scars

Botox is used to plump out skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles at the treatment site. While immensely popular for aesthetic reasons, Botox is also used in keloid and hypertrophic scar treatments.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Botox helps inhibit the proliferation of fibroblasts, a type of cell that produces collagen and structural framework tissues. Instead of contributing to just tissue repair, these fibroblasts multiply rapidly and excessively in the dermis and push out through the epidermis to form keloids and hypertrophic scars.

SCHEDULE:
Doctors will evaluate each patient's condition and prescribe the dosage and frequency.
