WHAT IS SALT ESCAPE?

Salt Therapy is fast becoming one of the more popular natural treatments for symptoms of respiratory and skin conditions. Thousands of adults and children have benefited from it with no side effects.

Meditourz is proud to bring you the most advanced healing treatments using dry salt therapy through our association with Salt Escape, started by Lyla and Jamsheed Mehta. This unique wellness therapy utilises the antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties of salt to offer relief from many chronic and acute respiratory and skin conditions.

HOW DID SALT THERAPY ORIGINATE?

Many ancient civilizations have used salt extensively for its therapeutic properties – be it to disinfect wounds, reduce inflammations or treat respiratory illnesses. In modern times, the chronology is as follows:

  • In the 19th century, a health official in Poland documented that workmen who were mining salt in salt caves experienced considerably enhanced respiratory health, including substantial reduction in respiratory disorders.
  • During World War II, patients taking shelter in salt caves saw amazing improvements in their breathing and lung conditions.
  • Thus, in the 1960s, 'salt rooms' were developed in Russia and Eastern Europe.
  • These rooms had devices called halogenerators which simulated the conditions and climate of the salt mines, thereby accelerating positive effects for respiratory and skin conditions.
  • This gave rise to 'Halotherapy' or Salt Therapy.

HOW WAS SALT ESCAPE BORN?

Lyla and Jamsheed Mehta were intrigued about Halotherapy and performed extensive research on it. After successfully undergoing a salt therapy treatment and experiencing the benefits it had on Jamsheed's own chronic rhinitis, they became firm believers. They decided that this was something that was badly needed.

They knew that people were breathing polluted air and suffering from chronic respiratory problems as a result. Salt therapy seemed a wonderful, natural, drug-free way to make them better. They decided to set up the city's first salt therapy centre, recreating the 'micro climate' of salt caves in Mumbai. Thus, Salt Escape was born.

SALT THERAPY – HOW IT WORKS

Salt Therapy utilises the antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties of salt, offering relief from many chronic and acute respiratory and skin conditions.

Salt Escape uses salt aerosols that have microscopic salt particles which are ground in a halogenerator machine. When inhaled naturally, these particles penetrate into the lungs and bronchi. The skin is also exposed to dry salt aerosol for its healing effects on the hair and blood micro-circulation.

Salt Therapy relieves symptoms of respiratory infections and conditions by:

  • Cleansing smoke, dust, pollutants and other allergens from the airways
  • Drawing out inflammation
  • Thinning/loosening congestion/mucous
  • Facilitating drainage of the sinuses
  • Reducing allergies within the airways

Salt Therapy helps to relieve skin infections and ailments by:

  • Balancing pH levels
  • Neutralizing allergens and irritants
  • Inducing regenerative skin processes
  • Improving blood micro-circulation
  • Lowering IgE levels, preventing immune system oversensitivity and allergies

SALT ESCAPE – WHAT TO EXPECT

Modern-day Salt Therapy can be enjoyed at Salt Escape, which offers air-conditioned, state-of-the-art salt rooms where customers can also enjoy the comforts of a deluxe spa.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AFTER UNDERGOING SALT THERAPY?

After a few sessions, you will notice your breathing become easier. Over the course of the therapy, shortness of breath, sneezing, coughing and congestion will gradually be alleviated. Many people find that a course in Salt Therapy can significantly reduce their dependence on inhalers and steroids.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE RELIEVED BY SALT THERAPY?

Salt Therapy has successfully offered relief from symptoms of:

1. ASTHMA

Asthma is a respiratory condition affecting the airways of the lungs that makes breathing difficult. Asthma is characterised by spasms in the bronchi. It is usually connected to an allergic reaction or other forms of hypersensitivity. Although the respiratory system of an asthmatic person may essentially be in good working order, their airways become inflamed and are more sensitive than usual. When the patient comes into contact with something that irritates their lungs, the airways narrow, the muscles around them tighten, and there is an increased production of sticky mucus (called phlegm). There are over 25 million people in India who suffer from asthma. Since there is no complete cure available for asthma, effective management of the illness is crucial.

2. BRONCHITIS

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the lining of bronchial tubes, which carry air in and out of the lungs. Bronchitis is a very common condition, and can be of two types:

  • Acute bronchitis:
This is usually a viral infection, but can also be caused by bacterial infection or exposure of the lungs to irritants, like tobacco smoke, dust, fumes, and air pollution.

3. BRONCHIECTASIS

Bronchiectasis is a condition in which the bronchial tubes of the lungs are permanently damaged, widened, and thickened. These damaged air passages cannot clear themselves properly. Mucus builds up and collects in them, infecting them with bacteria. This results in breathing distress, blocked airways, and frequent infections.

4. ALLERGIC RHINITIS (HAY FEVER ALLERGIES)

Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) is one of the most common forms of allergy. An allergen is a normally harmless substance that causes an allergic reaction in certain people. When allergens come into contact with the person's body, the body releases histamine, a natural chemical that defends the body from allergens. This chemical causes allergic rhinitis. The symptoms of allergic rhinitis include sneezing, congestion, a runny nose, and sinus pain. The most common allergens are dust, dust mites, pollen, grass, mould, and perfume. An estimated 200 million people in India suffer from allergies. Rising levels of air pollution have significantly increased the number of allergic rhinitis cases, especially in school-going children.

5. CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE (COPD)

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a group of progressive lung diseases. The most common ones are chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

  • Bronchitis is an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, and is also characterized by increased mucus production.

6. SINUSITIS

Sinusitis is an inflammation or swelling of the tissue that lines the sinuses. Healthy sinuses are filled with air, but when they get blocked with trapped mucus, an uncomfortable sensation of pressure occurs. This also creates an environment suitable for infection-causing bacteria. Sinus blockages can be caused by common colds, allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, or a deviated septum. In children, sinusitis is often caused by pollution or allergies. An estimated 150 million Indians suffer from it.

7. CYSTIC FIBROSIS (CF)

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and, over time, inhibits the ability to breathe. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky build-up of mucus in the lungs and other organs. The mucus clogs the airways in the lungs and traps bacteria, leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually respiratory failure.

8. COUGHING

Coughing is the body's way of removing foreign bodies or mucus from the lungs and upper airway passages. It is also a reaction to irritated airways. Cough is only a symptom, not a disease: its importance is known only by evaluating other symptoms.

9. SMOKER’S COUGH

A smoker's cough is a persistent cough that develops in long-term smokers. It may start as a dry cough, but it usually produces phlegm over time. A smoking-related cough is usually the worst while waking up, but improves over the course of the day.
Respiratory airways are lined with cilia, tiny hair-like cells that catch toxins in the inhaled air and move them toward the mouth. Smoking paralyzes these cells, letting the toxins enter the lungs, settle down, and create inflammations. This leads to coughing, because the body tries to clear the lungs. During the night, these cilia start repairing themselves since they're no longer exposed to the toxins in the smoke. Because the cilia work all night to trap and remove accumulated toxins, the result is an increase in coughing after waking up.

10. CHEST INFECTIONS: PNEUMONIA AND BRONCHIOLITIS

A chest infection affects the lungs in either the larger airways (bronchitis) or the smaller air sacs (pneumonia). It is extremely common – affecting about a third of all babies in their first year. The infection may last just 5 to 7 days, but the symptoms can last much longer.

11. COLD AND FLU (INFLUENZA)

A Cold is a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, affecting the nose, throat, and sinuses. While adults usually have 2 to 3 colds a year, children can catch it twice or thrice as frequently. Children with a cold often cough because of the mucus at the back of their throats. There is no cure for a common cold except to treat its symptoms.

12. ECZEMA AND PSORIASIS

Eczema is a form of dermatitis, an acute or chronic inflammation of the skin. It occurs because of a hypersensitivity reaction, causing the skin to overreact to certain triggers, like dyes, fabrics, soaps, animal hair/dander and other irritants. It is very common in infants but most people outgrow it by childhood or early adulthood. A non-contagious ailment, its symptoms appear in many different forms and vary in each person.
